Just as I suspected! Fine silver rings are much easier to make than bronze rings. It just costs double (or more) which means I have to plan out my design better so that I love every piece I make. This was my trial piece. I did not spend tons of time on it since I wasn’t sure how it would fire but happily it worked great. Now I’m off to plan the next ring… woohoo!
Here is another pendant that I made from bronzclay. Once again I set a cabochon that I made. This pendant is actually an earlier one that I forgot to photograph. I was messing around with using the small silver balls… which I love! And then I set the cz in and embeddable prong setting. I think it is kind of fun. Anyway, I’ve got sooo many ideas for this metal clay floating about in my head, and even tools to try but with the dreaded illness running amok in our house I have not been getting much done! However, I have high hopes for this weekend. DH is scampering off to San Francisco with the girls to visit family so I plan to play and experiment! Wish me luck!
It is quite satisfying to pound silver and not break the glass! As you can see below there have been a few casualties… oh well, you win some you lose some. Kinda like how my morning is going, two of my family members were totally grumpy and unpleasant and two of us were happy. What can you do? You win some, you lose some I guess. Hopefully everyone will be in good spirits by tonight! (Fingers crossed!) 🙂
I made this pendant more than a week ago and I finally got it into a necklace. I LOVE it! I have some other fun pieces that I want to set into silver if I can just make the time to do it… I have another necklace almost finished so watch out, I might be catching up on my Year of Jewelry (YOJ) quest! 😀
Here are a few pieces of silver that I have been working on. I’m finally feeling brave about soldering which is very exciting! Hopefully I’ll be making myself some pretty pieces here soon. I’m happy with the ring in this photo. I’ve been reading about bezel setting (because of course I’m teaching myself all of this… no time for a class unfortunately…) and I think my bezel strip is too thick so I’ve got more on order and hopefully it will work a little better. Anyway, I’m just having lots of fun playing. 😀
I’m still playing with silver and having lots of fun! I have at least three items “in progress” which I need to finish, um probably more if I really looked at everything on my messy table… heehee… This pendant is one of the unfinished items. The silver heart is kind of large, like 42mm by 52mm but of course I think that jewelry should make a statement and not go unnoticed… 🙂 I need to string it into a necklace and I’ll try to have another photo when I get that done. Jewelry is just too much fun!
Oh how happy I am with this piece! Finally, I had some time to play with silver and I feel that I got the rivet to work properly. 😀 I’ve seen lots of cool silver and lampwork combos and I have always wanted to work more silver into my pieces and finally success that makes me happy. Woohoo! Stay tuned, I’ve got some other ideas! I’m toying with mixing in some enamels too… let the fun begin! 🙂
Okay, I am pretty happy with this piece! Finally I made a bezel that I would wear. 😀 I really like how slim it is! It is only 4mm deep, the bezel is made with 1/8″ bezel wire. The whole piece is about 20mm round, not including the rings to string it with. Not too shabby if I do say so myself… I plan to make more so stay tuned if it strikes your fancy! Hope you are still having good holiday humor! We certainly are.
Whew! The days are just zipping by! Camp, library, swimming, corn on the cob… 😀 Just what you think might be part of a summer day. Today I snuck out to Art and the Vineyard which is a local celebration where lots of artisans come to sell their wares. I of course had to snap up a couple of items. I was quite impressed by the wire wrapping skills on the cab. Then the the quote on the silver pendant simply made me smile so I had to grab it. Apparently the quote is from Goethe. I bought it because it made me think, if I just hold my ground with my kids, the additional troops will arrive shortly! Heehee… I only wish! Anyway, the Mart update this week is very small. I’ll try to have more next week… but summer is just more mellow around here and I’m sort of enjoying using a bit of my time to try out the boro and other new ideas. I hope that you are also able to enjoy some lazy summer days!!
Here are some of my latest silver pieces. I think they are fun and I am always just so happy when I actually get the solder to behave!!! I am also having lots of fun making “surprise beads”… they are a surprise to me because I never know what they really will look like out of the kiln. Each one is like a little experiment to see just what happens when I add all the ingredients! 😀 The only trouble comes about when I love a bead and I can’t remember what I did! HA! Anyway, I hope you are having a great week. We have about two weeks before school starts here so we are a bit busy with last minute summer fun it seems… but it is all good. I am HOPING to finally load the Mart with some flowers next week, stay tuned…
